![]() ![]() Partly for the nostalgia but partly because it would be Sony making an effort to put a British developer on a pedestal, which they’ve never really done. I know it’s just a name, and a logo, but I’d love to see the return of Psygnosis. Basically, Sony will be gating the majority of retro content behind the most expensive paywall.Phil Spencer knows full well that the two services are not going to be identical and as far as I’m concerned he’s purposefully stirring the pot, making people expect more of PlayStation Game Pass, so that when it’s announced as less it seems like a disappointment. The Premium tier is what will supposedly feature games from the PlayStation 1, PlayStation 2, PlayStation 3, and even PSP. We’ll need to wait for official clarification on the difference between the Extra and Premium tiers’ libraries, but the original Bloomberg report said that the Extra tier will only contain PlayStation 4 and, eventually, PlayStation 5 games. The last tier, PS Plus Premium, charges $16 a month (about £12) and includes everything in the other tiers, PS Now’s streaming capabilities, time-limited game trials of new releases, and apparently a second library of classic games. ![]() Considering the current PS Now service is $9.99/£8.99 a month, this means current subscribers will need to start paying extra. The report says that the library has simply been ripped from PS Now and grafted into PS Plus instead. The second tier, PS Plus Extra, is $13 a month (about £10) and comes with the monthly free games and a library of hundreds of older titles. Grubb has it down as $10 a month, which is what PS Plus already costs (it’s £6.99 a month in the UK). ![]() The first tier, PS Plus Essential, is just the new name for the current PS Plus service and will continue to offer a selection of free games every month. Although Grubb stresses that these could change by the time the service launches, it’s unlikely Sony will stray too far from these estimates. ![]()
